Help Shape the Future of Competition in Ontario Volleyball

As communicated earlier this fall, the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) is taking steps to address the challenges brought on by the rapid growth of youth participation across the province. Based on recommendations from Sport for Life’s comprehensive OVA Youth Competition Review, we are moving forward with a key change: introducing streams within large age groups to improve competition delivery and championship logistics.

Starting in the 2026–27 season, the 14U, 15U, and 16U girls' age groups will be divided into two streams. Each stream will include approximately 100 teams and follow its own competition calendar — a necessary adjustment to accommodate all teams at the 2027 Ontario Championships. This change will make scheduling more manageable and deliver a better experience for athletes, families, and clubs.

We’ve already begun consultations with the Indoor Volleyball Development Committee (IVDC), the Regional Coach Development Subcommittee, and will soon connect with the Provincial Referee Committee and club leaders during a round table after the AGM on December 14. Now, we’re inviting all memberscoaches, athletes, parents, and club leaders — to complete a survey and share their perspectives.

The survey takes 8–12 minutes to complete. Your input will help shape how the streaming system is implemented and communicated.

We encourage you to share the survey within your team or club. The more voices we hear, the better prepared we’ll be to deliver a system that reflects the needs of our volleyball community.

Club Leaders Round Table

On Sunday, December 14th, directly following the OVA’s AGM, we will be meeting with club leaders to take part in a discussion webinar about the upcoming indoor youth competition changes. This guided discussion is designed for club leaders to share insights, ask questions, and collaborate on the implementation of the key changes to the competitions system recommended by Sport for Life. Club leaders' feedback is essential to ensure our competition changes support volleyball in Ontario. If you would like to participate, please contact your club's leadership for details on how you can register for the meeting or reach out to Carrie Campbell, Club Services Manager, at ccampbell@ontariovolleyball.org
