The energy was electric as Ontario Volleyball proudly hosted the Sitting Volleyball Tournament during the 2025 Ontario Parasport Games, bringing together para-athletes, coaches, volunteers, and fans for an unforgettable celebration of adaptive sport.
Held at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, the tournament served as a powerful reminder of sport’s ability to connect communities and empower athletes of all abilities. With a growing presence in Ontario, sitting volleyball continues to break barriers and build opportunities for inclusive competition.
Over the course of the weekend, teams competed in a spirited round-robin format that led to some thrilling matchups and dramatic finishes. The final standings reflect not just talent, but determination and team spirit:
Gold Medal: Team Aria
Silver Medal: Dorset Park
Bronze Medal: Team MQ
Each team brought intensity to the court, with athletes demonstrating the speed, strategy, and skill that define this fast-growing Paralympic sport.
One of the standout features of this year’s tournament was its commitment to inclusion. Able-bodied athletes were welcomed to train and compete alongside para-athletes, creating an environment of shared learning, mutual respect, and deepened understanding of adaptive sport.
Coaches in both sitting and standing volleyball led training sessions in the months leading up to the event, offering athletes the chance to refine their technique and grow their competitive game.
According to Joe Millage who coordinates the sitting program for the OVA, “this year’s event was expected to have the highest level of play ever at the games. The level of competition on the day between the teams did not disappoint!”
Beyond the court, the tournament buzzed with community spirit. Spectators filled the venue, cheering enthusiastically and celebrating the accomplishments of every player. Volunteers from the St. Catharines region played a crucial role in supporting athletes and ensuring the tournament ran smoothly.
Ontario Volleyball extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who made this event possible:
Your efforts continue to grow the game and make volleyball a sport for all.
Tournament photos will be published and updated on the OVA’s Fliker’s account and a recording of the day’s events can be found here.
Sitting volleyball is open to athletes of all skill levels and abilities. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned competitor, we welcome you to experience the game.
