The 2025 Ontario Championships saved one of its most exciting events for last, as Event 5 crowned champions in the 18U Boys, 18U Girls, and 12U Girls 4v4 divisions. Event 5 concluded the Waterloo portion of the OVA's flagship indoor tournament in a bookend fashion with the first Ontario Championships experienced from the 4v4G division and the final outing for the 18Us . Held at RIM Park and Conestoga College, the tournament showcased the future of Ontario volleyball, from rising young talents in the 4v4 division to standout 18U athletes ready to take their game to the next level.
The halls and courts of RIM and Conestoga were lined with cowboy hats when the Western theme day took over for the final Waterloo event.
The 18U Girls division lived up to its hype, with Ontario’s top clubs battling in intense, high-level matches. For the second year in a row, Phoenix Legacy made their way to the gold medal final. In 2024, the then-17U squad lost to Leaside Wildfire in a highly-contested match. One year later, Legacy was able to cap their OVA run with the gold and banner after defeating Pakmen Gold Mike in four sets (25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19).
Meanwhile, REACH Harmony secured bronze in another exciting contest against Defensa Rob, proving the depth of talent in this graduating class. Many 18U standouts are now set to join U SPORTS, CCAA and NCAA programs next season.
The 18U Boys division saw the KW Preds Invictus continue their dominance, capturing back-to-back provincial titles (Gold in 17U, 2024 Ontario Championships) with a commanding straight-sets win over Pakmen Gold Jessy. Their explosive offense and airtight blocking proved too much for their opponents, capping off an undefeated run through the playoffs.
Pakmen Gold Omar claimed bronze in a hard-fought match against Phoenix Skybirds. With many of these athletes moving on to university and college volleyball, the future looks bright for Ontario’s next wave of talent.
The 4v4 Girls division brought non-stop enthusiasm and energy, with young athletes displaying impressive skill and enthusiasm. Divided into two, two-day tournaments, Caspian Vortex took gold and silver placements after their Yellow and Blue squads squared off in the finals. Pakmen Diem rounded out the podium with bronze.
The second tournament saw Synergy White Dynamite, E381 Blue and FCVC Pine capture the gold, silver and bronze, respectively. With 50 teams having competed in this age category in this years tournament, the next generation of volleyball is in good hands with the many clubs that are accommodating for the first steps in rep programs.
