Durham College and Ontario Technical University played host to the inaugural College/University Sitting Volleyball Invitational tournament on March 6th, 2025.

Pairing with Parasport Ontario, the hosts continued their efforts to advance the sitting game in the province by bring this new tournament to the region.

Teams representing McMaster (Dorset Park), U of T, Ontario Technical University, Durham College, and Team Aria (Persian Cats) competed in the day-long 2-court tournament at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre in Oshawa.

Played along side the 2025 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship, and with the help of Parasport Ontario, this event was a great showcase for the burgeoning post-secondary sitting game.

Across the province, educational institutions have been jumping on board. Donating time, energy and most importantly, access for sitting athletes to play. This tournament is the first of it's kind in the province and will be looking to expand in 2026 and beyond.

Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) was at the tournament to help cover the event. Recordings of the games are free to watch on CBC Connect and photos from the event can be found over on our Flickr account.

As part of the opening ceremonies, OVA's Louis-Pierre Mainville  was on hand to announce the Team Ontario Sitting Program, a new initiative to expand opportunities to develop high level Ontario athletes right here at home.

This news was met with a large applause and multiple participants and attendees expressed how important the creation of high level opportunities is to those who play the game.

OVA would like to thank Durham College and Ontario Technical University for hosting this tournament and for all the great work they continue to do for sitting volleyball in Ontario.
