Longtime Ontario referee Bob Rocque has received the Volleyball Canada Officials' Association Dennis Pomeroy Leadership Award. The award, named after the late Dennis Pomeroy of the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association, is given to a referee  who was, is, or has been a leader of  referee development.

Rocque adds another accolade to an elite level career, most recently being called to the OVA Hall of Fame in 2022. Bob has also been honoured with the OVA Recognition, Achievement, and Special Achievement Awards throughout his career.

He started his refereeing career as an indoor referee in 1975 and continues today both on the indoor and on the beach, both on the National level. He has refereed at Volleyball Canada Championships, NTC’s, USports, OCAA tournaments and has been involved with FIVB World Beach Tours in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, North Bay and Bermuda.

In his 45 years in volleyball, Bob has held nearly every position there is available in the refereeing community; an assignor in Region 4  both at the high school and college level,  an ROC of Region 4 for almost 10 years and currently on the Referee Committee as Chair of Quality Assurance. He continues to develop and mentor Ontario referees not only in his home region of Durham, but is instrumental in the development of the referees throughout Ontario which can be highlighted in the creation of the Mentorship Program that was rolled out in Ontario. He also assisted in the development of the program used across the country.

Congratulations, Bob on this remarkable achievement.
