Unity Volleyball Club

The Unity Volleyball Club (Unity) operates as a not-for-profit volleyball club in the City of Markham and adjoining regions including Scarborough, Thornhill and Woodbridge. Unity’s  athlete development model is based on a “Person-Centred” approach: “The Unity Volleyball Club’s mission is to develop physically literate, durable, well-rounded and adjusted athletes who will enjoy volleyball and physical activity for the rest of their lives.”

The Unity Volleyball Club offers a broad range of opportunities for volleyball skill development and personal growth for athletes of all ages and abilities. The club is committed to long-term athlete development beginning with a focus on physical literacy at the early stages of a young person’s growth to the establishment of high-performance programs for serious athletes who aspire to perform at the “next level”.

Unity continues to grow and we are seeking individuals who are interested in joining us as we continue to expand our program offerings and attract more young athletes and parents who share our passion for the sport of volleyball.


Head Coach Overview

Position Title: Head Coach
Reports To: Unity Program Manager
Position Summary: Full-time

Through both developmental and competitive programs Unity coaches create positive, caring environments where attention to process and learning are the primary objectives and athletes are 
encouraged to set personal goals and THRIVE together.

Unity appreciates the important role that coaches play in the development of young athletes. As a Unity coach you will be part of a supportive environment and a fraternity of experienced coaches 
who are accessible and are willing to share their knowledge. You will also have access to a wealth of resources that have been developed by volleyball experts.

The Head Coach will be assigned to lead, manage or assist in a variety of Unity volleyball programs including Rep, Select and Academy. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in a number of specialized programs including summer camps and school-based clinics both elementary and secondary.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of seasonal training plan(s)
  • Individual practice planning
  • In-competition coaching
  • Manage team staff including assistant(s) and Manager
  • Communication with athletes’ parents
  • Communication with both elementary and secondary schools regarding Unity clinics

Schedule

  • On court coaching – 3 to 4 times per week
  • Competition coaching - weekends
  • Seasonal programs:
    • Summer Camps – 5 day camps
    • Christmas and March break camps
    • School clinics – during scholastic year

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills are mandatory. The successful candidate will be required to connect and relate in a positive manner to a diverse group of individuals including athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents.
  • The talent and ability to influence and relate to others through strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Volleyball Canada’s Long-Term Player Development Model.
  • NCCP certification is an asset but not required. The NCCP volleyball certification process must commence upon hiring.
  • Well-developed Microsoft Office and Google Drive skills.
  • Familiarity with volleyball data collection software programs is an asset.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to ensure programs are coherent and flow without interruption.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders.

This is a full-time position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Program Administrator Overview

Position Title: Program Administrator
Reports To: Unity Management Team
Position Summary: Full-time
 

The Program Administrator position is multi-faceted. The successful candidate will be assigned a broad range of duties that will require a diverse skill-set.

Term of employment is August 1st, 2023 to July 30th, 2024 and is renewable subsequent to a favourable performance review.

The following represents a description of the duties for the position of Program Administrator including expectations and compensation.

  • Staff Schedules
  • Inventory Management
  • Invoicing and Fee Collection
  • Social Media, Newsletter & Web Site
  • OVA MRS Registration
  • Web Site Updates
  • Customer Service and Communications

Qualifications

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Facebook and Instagram skills.
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp and newsletter preparation is desirable.
  • Familiarity with WordPress web site editing software an asset.
  • Strong planning skills to ensure coherent and timely flow of all communications.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders.

This is a full-time, salaried position including 2 weeks paid vacation.

The successful candidate is expected to work 35 to 40 hours per week including some week-nights and weekends.
