Job Opportunity: Athlete Development Coordinator, Ontario Volleyball Association

The Athlete Development Coordinator plays an administrative role in the delivery of the OVA High Performance Plan and the planning of OVA Grassroots programs. The individual in this key position is responsible for coordinating athlete development programs across a wide range of Long Term Development (LTD) stages in beach, indoor and sitting volleyball. The Athlete Development Coordinator works closely with the Athlete Development Manager to deliver the Athlete Identification process, the Team Ontario Regional program and Tall Maples.

The role requires coordinating the development, implementation and marketing of the SPIKES on the Beach, Smashball, Hoops & Spikes and Parent & Player volleyball programs in Ontario. It also involves providing support to the Operations Coordinator for the delivery of sitting volleyball initiatives. The position involves being present at various selection and training camps throughout the year. As such, the Athlete Development Coordinator plays an important role in sharing and promoting athlete development best practices in the community.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, which includes evening and weekends

Responsibilities

The role involves event coordination and on-site support. As such, the position requires travel and an important amount of work on the weekend. The role encompasses a broad range of tasks and responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

Athlete Development
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver the Team Ontario Regional Program and Tall Maples in collaboration with the Regions and their volunteers. 
  • Assist the Senior Beach Development Coach with the planning and coordination of the beach full-time training group program, March Break camp and summer beach Team Ontario programs. 
  • Promote the athlete development programs through the OVA website and social media by creating information packages as well as player and coach profiles.
  • Provide on-site support to athletes and coaches during training camps and be the onsite liaison to participants and the Facility Operation staff.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of the Athlete Identification process for all beach and indoor Team Ontario programs.
  • Communicate key information to athletes/parents and respond to questions and inquiries in a timely fashion. 
  • Be the contact person for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports about the delivery of the Ontario Summer Games. 
  • Keep track of Team Ontario coach information including the collection of all screening documents as per the OVA Screening Policy. 
  • Participate in meetings with Athlete Development Manager and various committees.
  • Attend Volleyball Canada technical meetings as required.
Grassroots, Sitting and Sport For Life
  • Annual coordination of SPIKES (indoor), SPIKES on the Beach, Smashball, Hoops & Spikes and Parent and Player programs in the province.
  • Support the development of video lessons and marketing activities.
  • Collaborate in the recruitment and management of ‘Spikes Clinicians’ to deliver sessions to clubs and community groups upon request.
  • Promote Volleyball Canada’s Community Coach and Elementary Coach workshops.
  • Along with ParaSport Ontario, support the Operations Coordinator with the tournament management and community outreach for sitting volleyball.
  • Assist the planning and execution of special grassroots and community outreach events and programs including; newcomers programs; the Active Community Engagement (ACE) program; Indigenous Volleyball programs.
  • Serve or assist with the work of OVA committees as required.

Qualifications

  • A college or university degree.
  • Interest for project management and high performance sports.
  • Understanding of basic athlete development principles and how they apply to volleyball specifically.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, hardworking individual.
  • Self-initiator/proactive and ability to propose solutions to problems.
  • Ability to work as part of a dynamic team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and managing a large database.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and extended hours as required. 
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening & Police Screening Check (can be obtained upon employment) Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and extended hours as required. 
  • Travel is necessary so personal car and valid driver’s license required.
