The beginning of the 2022-23 volleyball season is fast approaching and with it the renewal of memberships is coming up.  For the first time in over 10 years, Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) is raising its fees. To help ease the transition, OVA has decided to spread the increase gradually over the next three years.

For the 2022-23 season, membership fees with Volleyball Canada will increase from $32 to $33 and OVA fees for competitive athletes, coaches and club personnel will increase from $47 to $52. There will be no increase in membership fees for recreational athletes or referees. For the 2023-24 season there will be an additional increase with OVA to $55 and again for 2024-25 to $57.

While membership fees do not make up a large portion of OVA’s yearly revenue, every dollar helps in growing the game in our province by introducing the sport to newcomers and building volleyball in communities with no clubs. Such contributions also allow for continued support of community outreach programs, athlete assistance programs and enabling the participation of athletes with disabilities through sitting volleyball.

OVA Revenue Chart from 2017-19

In the pre-pandemic years, membership fees have made up around 8% of the OVA revenue and through the pandemic as a large portion of the OVA revenue was lost due to lack of events, our membership numbers continued to grow and helped keep programs running. As we move into a new season, we hope to see participation numbers to continue to grow as it demonstrates a growth in the game within our province.

While your fees are increasing, please remember that your membership comes with a growing list of discounts on things like volleyball gear, insurance, awards and more. A full list can be found on our Member Benefits page.

Your membership with OVA will make you a part of the recognized Provincial Sport Organization for volleyball. Along with our goals of promoting, educating, and ensuring the quality of the sport of volleyball in Ontario, OVA is committed to a sport environment free from abuse. Our zero-tolerance policy through Safe Sport and an Independent third-party review process assures that complaints are dealt with properly and impartially.
