The Ontario Volleyball Association continues to work in consultation with the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries as we communicate important government directives and updates related to the pandemic.

The Government of Ontario announced on January 20, 2022 that it is relaxing public health measures, in response to the recent status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of those changes, effective January 31, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. the Government of Ontario will reintroduce a 50 per cent capacity (or 500 people, whichever is less) for spectators for indoor sports and recreational fitness venues.

As the Government of Ontario’s regulations have not been published pertaining to yesterday’s announcement, we will clarify the specifics surrounding capacity limits affecting participants i.e., players, coaches, referees, and staff. Further updates for membership will be provided as soon as possible.

Off the court, 2 (two) metre distancing requirements remain in place for non-competition areas such as change rooms, washrooms, or other gathering spaces.

The Government of Ontario has indicated that it will ease restrictions over a phased approach of 21-day increments, based on public health indicators at the time. We will see further adjustments to capacity limits for indoor sport and recreation facilities on February 21 and then again on March 14, 2022.

The Government of Ontario has also indicated that proof of vaccination for indoor sports and recreational fitness venues remains in place.

Clubs are reminded to contact their local Public Health Unit and facilities, as applications of these changes may vary by region and facility.

This is positive news for our return to the courts as teams can get back to the gyms as of January 31, 2022. The OVA modified indoor competition plan will be moving forward in February as previously outlined to membership.
