Effective Wednesday January 5, 2022, Ontario will be moving back to Step Two of its Roadmap to Reopen with modifications that take into account the province’s successful vaccination efforts. This means that all indoor sport and recreational facilities are closed for a period of at least 21 days based on the January 3, 2022 announcement by the Ontario Government.

Indoor sport is closed with limited exceptions and conditions until January 26, 2022 (such as athletes training for Olympics and Paralympics, select professional and elite amateur sport leagues who will operate via an approved framework from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and persons with disabilities for physical therapy).  This closure of indoor sport affects all Club practices and OVA competitions and training.

Due to the measures put in place by the Ontario Government today, the following OVA events have been cancelled between January 5 to January 26, 2022:

  • January 2022 TNS and 15U Challenge Cup events at the EY Centre - Ottawa
  • All January 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 indoor competitions regular season tournaments
  • Volleyball Canada Jump Off testing at the EY Centre – Ottawa
  • All Winter Beach tour events
  • Offseason Beach Training Group (Drop In Training)
  • Beach Full time training Group

At this point in time, the January 28 to 30, 2022 16U Challenge Cup events at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre have not been cancelled. The OVA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will adapt to any new regulations that are announced by the Ontario government.

All refunds will be credited back to the credit card used in MRS for OVA events.  If your club would like to receive one cheque with all indoor tournament refunds instead, please send an email to mwiersma@ontariovolleyball.org by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday January 4, 2022.

For the EY Centre Challenge Cup events, all room blocks through Hudson Travel Group (HTG) have been cancelled. You do not need to call the hotel or HTG to cancel your rooms.

The Indoor Competition staff will regroup the first week of January to discuss planning for January 27, 2022 and onwards. The OVA staff will look to host another Town Hall session to address Return to Play planning. Please stay tuned for further details.

Once we receive the published regulations from the Ontario government, the OVA will review with the Ministry as well as legal to interpret the regulations and will publish pertinent information to membership.

The OVA and its Board of Directors want to assure membership that every effort will be made to deliver our sport later this winter, all while keeping the health and safety of all OVA members at the forefront of any decisions.

Although we are back to Step 2 regulations, we are hopeful that this 21 day pause to sport and society will help get us through the Omicron variant quickly so we can come back safely to volleyball. Our volleyball community has come together to work within and navigate the COVID-19 pandemic regulations and we are grateful for the cooperation and perseverance we continue to see.
