Important Changes to 2022 Challenge Cup Events at EY Centre in Ottawa

With the current Omicron variant and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic landscape, the Ontario Volleyball Association has made several decisions in respect of the TNS and 15U Challenge Cup Events scheduled to take place from January 7-9 and 14-16, 2022, at EY Centre in Ottawa. These changes are based on the Ontario Government regulations as of December 30, 2021 and Ottawa Public Health Guidelines.

Effective immediately:

  1. Each team is only allowed to bring 20 patrons inside of the facility. These 20 patrons are comprised of athletes, coaches and spectators. Each team of 20 is required to check in at the same time at their scheduled check in time and assigned desk.  This change is to fall in line with the Government of Ontario announcement on December 30, 2021, and to ensure we do not exceed the approved capacity limits of EY Centre of 300 off court patrons in each Hall at any given time.  Each team will be given wristbands that must always be worn during the event, even during game play. These wristbands are not interchangeable throughout the day for spectators.  For the full team check in procedure regarding contact tracing, daily health screening and proof of vaccination and identification, please visit the tournament page.
  2. Athletes must always wear masks, including during game play.
  3. All event staff will be provided with N95 masks.
  4. The ball free warm up zone has been removed. Warmups are only permitted on court during designated match times. No running or ball handling anyone in the facility except for on the sport court.

The health and safety of all participants in the EY Challenge Cup is of paramount importance and these additional safety measures will ensure we are going above and beyond Ontario Government regulations to deliver this event in the safest possible manner.  Please ensure that you review the OVA’s Challenge Cup Event Safety plan prior to arrival in Ottawa.
