At the Special Meeting of OVA members held on November 7, 2021, 97.7% of voting delegates voted to ratify the OVA’s proposed new by-laws. We wish to thank the regional delegates that voted at the Special Meeting.

Key changes approved at the Special Meeting include the following:

  • All OVA members other than recreational members may cast votes for the Board of Directors. If a member is under the age of 18, the member’s parent may vote on his or her behalf.
  • The Board position of Regional Council Director, previously an appointed position, has been replaced by the new position of Director, Regional Engagement, who will be elected by the general membership at the upcoming AGM. This newly elected director will become Chair of the Regional Council.
  • A new Board position of Athletes’ Representative has been created; this director’s role is to advocate for and promote the interests of the OVA athlete community. The OVA’s first Athletes’ Representative will be elected by the general membership at the upcoming AGM.
  • The Past President position on the Board is discontinued.
  • The Regional Council is now a standing committee of the OVA Board of Directors, and the Regional Executive structure has been dissolved. Members of the Regional Executives elected at the 2020 and 2021 Regional meetings will now transition to a new Regional Council structure to be led by the Director, Regional Engagement.

The updated OVA Constitution and By-Laws are also found under the Constitution & By-Laws webpage.

The OVA Annual General Meeting will take place virtually on Sunday, December 12, 2021. If you have any questions regarding how these by-law changes impact the upcoming Annual General Meeting, please contact info@ontariovolleyball.org.
