Return to Play Protocols: Step 1 have been released

The Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) has released Return to Play (RTP) Protocols for Step 1 of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopening strategy. Step 1 of the Roadmap focuses on resuming more outdoor activities with smaller crowds where risk of transmission is lower. This includes outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people and outdoor fitness classes, personal training and sports training up to 10 people as well. The protocols will ensure clubs have the knowledge and tools for a safe and legal return to sport based on provincial regulations and public health requirements. 

The RTP Protocols outline the requirements for operations, programming, off-court an on-court activities with supporting appendices to follow tracking and procedures.

Step One – Implications for Volleyball 
  • Activities may only take place outdoors during Step One. Indoor facility use is not permitted in this step. 
  • Maximum of 10 patrons allowed in any group activity. Please confirm with your facility if they are counting coaching staff in the gathering size limits.  
  • Sessions may only be for training – No games or scrimmages permitted in Step 1.  
  • In Step One, participants must always maintain physical distance of at least three (3) metres from any other person. 
  • No spectators permitted – However, persons under the age of 18 that are participating may be accompanied by one parent or guardian. 
  • Masks are to be worn by all participants at all times. The exception applies to athletes who are participating in on-court activities. 
OVA Town Hall this Monday

The OVA Virtual Town Hall taking place this coming Monday, June 21 will discuss the Step 1 Protocols along with an update on outdoor volleyball.
