The March 23 Virtual Town Hall session has been uploaded to the OVA YouTube channel. Click here to watch the meeting. The presentation slides are also available to view.

The OVA continues to work in consultation with the Government of Ontario and Volleyball Canada as we prepare for a return to our sport in 2021. We would like to provide key reminders on what is acceptable in the Government’s Coloured Zone re-opening strategy:

Lockdown (Grey)

  • No indoor activity is permitted, including travel to other zones to play and/or train.
  • Outdoor activity has been deemed acceptable for up to 10 people and must maintain physical distancing.

Control (Red)

  • Participation size for indoor facilities is 10 plus coaches and/or supervisors.
  • For classes or areas with weights, physical distancing must be increased to three (3) metres.
  • Outdoor participant capacity is 25.
  • Travel is permitted for individuals/teams to train in facilities in Green-Orange zones; however, these individuals must train with their own cohort. Scrimmages are not permitted with other teams as this would violate OVA’s Return to Play protocols.

Prevent – Restrict (Green-Orange)

  • Physical distancing is required with the exception during team sport activity and physical contact must be avoided.
  • Capacity limits: 50 indoor, 100 outdoor.
  • No spectators are permitted in Orange zones.
  • For leagues, there is a 50-participant capacity per division. No interdivision games are permitted.

The OVA has created a one-page reference guide which outlines what is acceptable for each coloured zone and what is required by Clubs in each zone. Please click the link below to view the guide.

Clubs must remember that if they act illegally, violating Government and OVA regulations, and do not have a Return to Play protocol in place, they are not protected by insurance. We have added The Supporting Ontario’s Recovery Act to the Club Resources page on the COVID-19 Information Hub under the “Insurance” section. The Recovery Act protects Non-Profits, coaches, and volunteers. Member Clubs are liable if they are not protecting everyone to their best ability.

A list of mask use resources has also been updated on the Club Resources page, providing members with numerous articles, studies and videos discussing the relationship between physical activity and mask usage. The OVA has made it mandatory for masks to be worn at all times by all participants.

As regulations and health screenings are updated frequently, the OVA encourages Clubs to stay in contact with their local Public Health Unit (PHU) and adhere to the local bylaws in addition to the OVA Return to Play protocols.

To find out which zone your PHU is in, please visit this link. If you are unsure as to which PHU your community falls under, please visit the Government’s PHU Locator.

All upcoming OVA Virtual Town Halls will be posted on ontariovolleyball.org/town-halls. Please be sure to check this page frequently or bookmark it on your computer.
