The Government of Ontario announced on February 12 that the Provincial Lockdown will begin to lift restrictions and return Public Health Units (PHU) back to the colour-coded zones, based on trends and local health indicators. The Government also introduced a new coloured zone moving forward: Stay-at-Home (White).

As of February 16, 27 PHUs were re-allocated to their appropriate zone. Click here to find out what zone your PHU is classified and when your PHU is scheduled to return post-Lockdown or Stay-at-Home order. Please note that the Government of Ontario may change these dates depending on public health indicators.

As a reminder to OVA members, the following-coloured zones as it impacts Return to Play:

  • At-Home training only: White, Grey
  • Group/team training: Red
  • Group/team training and modified gameplay: Green, Yellow, Orange

With the new Stay-at-Home (White) zone, individuals may leave their home to use an outdoor recreational amenity for exercise. Public gatherings are not allowed in this zone.

Return to Play Updates/Clarifications

Stay-at-Home (White) zones: Clubs, athletes, club staff, etc. are not permitted to leave their homes to participate in Club or OVA activities.

Lockdown (Grey) zones: Clubs, athletes, club staff, etc. are to not leave their zone to participate in Club or OVA activities. (i.e., if an athlete who lives in a Lockdown zone plays for a team in the Green, Yellow or Orange zones, they cannot travel to practice with their team).

Control (Red) zones: 10 participants indoors and 25 participants outdoors for organized team sports.  This does not include coaches and/or supervisors. Please confirm with your facility regarding their specific rules; however, as per Ontario regulations, coaches and supervisors do not count towards participant limits in the sports context. Only team training is allowed in this zone and participants must maintain 2m of physical distancing. Game play and scrimmages are not permitted. As per the Government of Ontario, it is discouraged to travel for non-essential reasons.

The OVA Return to Play Daily health screening forms have been updated.  Please see the OVA website for the most up to date versions.  Please note, the athlete and child daily health screening forms have been updated to reflect the Toronto and Peel school boards most recent daily health screening forms. This means that the OVA children/youth Daily Health Screening form has added question 1 to remain up to date with the Government of Ontario daily health screening form, as updated on their website on February 12, 2021.

All OVA Clubs must read and understand OVA Return to Play Protocol documents. In alignment with the Government of Ontario’s reopening strategy, feedback from Public Health and with approval from the OVA Board of Directors, the RTP Protocols provide direction on how to properly and safely return to volleyball.

Clubs must prepare their own Return to Play guide and complete the Compliance Checklist in order to return to practice and gameplay.
