The OVA is contributing to the conversation of mental health through an Athlete Wellness Week from February 1 – 5, 2021. Across OVA social media platforms, a series of videos of current and past Ontario volleyball athletes will be posted that share their individual experiences on the multiple facets of mental health and wellbeing, including:

  • Athlete Identity
  • Student-life Balance
  • Performance Anxiety
  • Injury
  • Body image

It could be difficult for athletes to navigate the given the circumstances due to the lack of activity and uncertainty of when this will all be over. The stories shared by their peers are aimed to resonate and provide a form of comfort. The Ontario volleyball community is here to support one another; you are not in this alone.

The conversation around the wellbeing of an individual is an important one. Amidst the lockdowns and winter season, awareness and acceptance of mental health and wellness is brought to the forefront with initiatives such as the annual Bell Canada Let’s Talk Day. Valuable resources such as Kids Help Phone, the Canadian Sport Help Line, and numerous organizations for youth to adult compiled by the Government of Ontario are also available to help.

You can stay connected with the OVA on our Instagram and Twitter channels (@ova_updates) next week as we shine a light on these stories to spark the ongoing conversation on mental health and wellness.
