The OVA stands in solidarity with its members of the Black community and visible minorities in this time and will continue to stand with you always.
The OVA does not tolerate racism and inequality. The OVA mission states “dedicated volunteers and professional staff provide leadership in the growth and development of volleyball for all Ontarians”, and we will continue to do its best to not fall short of our main commitment.
This is also time to reflect and acknowledge and improve on areas that can better demonstrate leadership in discussions and actions that extend beyond our sport. As a PSO, it is our duty to listen and hold those conversations so that we can gain a better understanding of perspective to progress in unison towards an inclusive future in and outside of volleyball.
The OVA has continued to be a leader in amateur sport in Ontario. These discussions are the reason why the Association has created and implemented the LGBTQ Policy, the Transgender Policy, the Safesport Person in Authority Code of Conduct and OVA Code of Conduct and Discipline and Complaints Policy, to prevent discrimination, abuse and harassment from happening to our members and permeating our game and environment.
Can we do better? Yes, everyone can always do better. We will strive to continually educate ourselves and find solutions to better support our athletes, members and community. As we move forward, please do not hesitate to reach out to improve the current policies the Association has in place. We have listed below resources you can access:
