The Regional Referees’ Chair (RRC) is responsible for the organization and development of officiating programs as well as the management and distribution of officiating assignments for volleyball within the region. Working with other referees in the region, the RRCs ensure that accurate records of assignments are kept and that appropriate distribution of funds are handled as per OVA and regional policies and procedures. The RRCs also serve as a member of the Province’s Referee Committee.
The OVA held elections for RRC and Beach Referee Chairs in May, resulting with Irena Zamboni as the sole change from the previous Chairs. She accepts the position from former Region 6 RRC, Erick Mompoint.
Zamboni has been heavily involved in other facets of the game outside of refereeing, which includes serving as the current Region 6 President and as the Fusion COMPETE Registrar for the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club. In 2017 at the Ontario Volleyball Hall of Fame ceremony, Zamboni was awarded with the Sylvia Jaksetic Female Official of the Year Award. When asked about her new role as the Region 6 RRC, Irena responded
“I am very excited to transition into the R6 Regional Referee Chair role, after being the Region 6 President the last 4 years," said Zamboni. "I look forward to continuing the work with the R6 referee and volleyball community, and our fellow OVA regions, as we navigate to keep up with the growth and development of volleyball across our region and province.”
Brian Rancourt (Region 2) and Samara Sevor (Region 3) were also re-elected as their respective RRCs this month. Brian joined the committee in 2015 and this will be Samara’s second term with the group. Both bring a wealth of experience and leadership to their regions and are vital to their success as the OVA referee community continues to grow across the province. With Andrew Robb at the helm of the committee, we are very excited to be working with this team on many upcoming projects for our OVA referees.
