The following is a message from the Toronto Pro Beach League:

OnPoint Beach Volleyball will face Galaxy Volleyball Club in the first-ever Toronto Pro Beach League Finals! 

Galaxy Volleyball Club finished the regular season as the only undefeated team when they took down Phoenix in the always entertaining Overtime Golden Set. Kate Clermont filled in for an injured MC Lapointe for Galaxy. Defending National Champions Julie Gordon and Shanice Marcelle defeated Clermont and Amanda Harnett 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 15-11). In the Men's Matchup Defending National Champions Ivan Reka and Simon Fecteau-Boutin needed all three sets to take down Andrew Richards and Andrew Kocur 2-1 (23-25, 21-19, 15-11). This set the scene for the crown favourite Golden Set where Galaxy battled hard to win 18-16. 

"There are few opportunities for young athletes and individuals to be exposed to high-level beach volleyball in Canada as the top-level athletes travel internationally for most competitions," said Harnett. "Therefore, I think it is really valuable for people, especially young athletes to come out and watch the finals and get exposure to high-level beach volleyball as it'll help promote the growth of the league and in turn help promote the sport in Canada."

Leaside earned their first win taking down OnPoint in the Golden Set. Jake MacNeil and Alex Russell beat Kevin Benn and Mark Gatto 2-0 (26-24, 21-18). Megan and Nicole McNamara forced the Golden Set when they beat Anna Dunn-Suen and Rian Lenarduzzi 2-0 (21-13, 21-9). In Overtime Leaside hung on to win 15-12. 

The Leaside win and Phoenix loss lead to a three-way tie that was broke by the set ratio between the tied teams. 

"For Mark and I, it has been a real pleasure to have the opportunity to compete against these young National team athletes and to also have the opportunity to watch these international women's teams play against each other," said Benn. "The quality of play amongst these young players is just outstanding and very exciting to watch."

"The Toronto Pro Beach League is a big step for the Ontario Beach Volleyball scene. OnPoint is excited to sponsor a team in the hopes of growing the game in the province," stated Darren O'Neil, Owner of OnPoint Beach Volleyball. "Many young athletes attend OnPoint Beach Volleyball camps and training programs in the summer and they now have something new to look forward to and aspire to compete in. It's exciting to dream of the spinoff effect of what may come of this first season."
