Milton Edge Volleyball Club seeks Coaches

Head Coach Position

About the Club:

Milton Edge is the fastest growing, all-year co-ed volleyball club in the Halton region. It provides indoor and beach volleyball programming for kids and youth in the region at various skill/experience levels and age categories. MEVC's indoor programs train at various facilities throughout the Town of Milton - including the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (Velodrome) - meanwhile the beach volleyball program trains exclusively at the Milton Sports Centre. 

Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Coaching Director, the Head Coach is responsible for working with the Assistant Coaches and Team Parent Representative to co-manage a program that aligns with the club's philosophy and approach to athlete development. the head coach collaborates with assistant coaches to ensure the fulfillment of practices, games and tournament plans; adherence to Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) and Volleyball Canada's (VC) administrative rules, policies, and requirements; and communicates effectively with all team stakeholders. 

The head coach supports and mentors the values of excellence in both academics and athletics, character development and leadership; and works collaboratively in a large club where financial, human and physical resources consisting of 16 teams and extensive development/community programming are shared. 

Responsibilities: 

Planning and Strategy

  • In collaboration with Coaching Director, develop an Annual Training Plan to maximize team and athlete development while adhering to MEVC's Athlete Development Model 
  • Collaborating with assistant coaches in delegating offensive and defensive system and strategy training and management to be successful at the team's age category 
  • Collaborating with assistant coaches in developing weekly and daily training plans

Community Engagement/Recruitment

  • Hosting and delivery of elementary school level tournaments and skills clinics
  • Identification and successful recruitment of athletes in the Halton Region 
  • In collaboration with other head coaches, facilitate athlete mentorship programs for younger age categories 
  • Identification and successful recruitment of coaches in the Halton Region 

Learning and Development 

  • Demonstrate commitment to coach development via various pathways: participation in In-House Coach Development Workshops, OVA Coaching Symposium and National Coaching Certification Program 
  • Participation in Coach Mentorship Program as Mentor Coach for new coaches in club 

Other 

  • Maintain effective communications and administrative systems amongst coaches, athletes, parents, and club administration 
  • Working collaboratively within a large organization consisting of multiple teams and community programs 
  • Complete adherence to MEVC, OVA and VC policies and procedures 
  • Travel with and supervise team on road trips 
  • Support personnel includes 1-3 Assistant Coaches and Team Parent Representative 

Qualifications:

Education

  • Valid Development (DEV) Indoor Volleyball Coach, Advanced Development (ADV) Indoor Volleyball Coach or Performance (PRF) Indoor Volleyball Coach Certification through VC and National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) - or working towards certification status

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience, with preference given to coaching high school and post-secondary level athletes 
  • Experience in coaching indoor volleyball required 

Skills 

  • Head coach must be of good character and have demonstrated a high caliber of leadership, sportsmanship, and coaching performance 
  • Have strong relationships with Elementary and High Schools in the Halton region for recruitment purposes
  • Have exceptional interpersonal communication skills, sound administrative skills, strong motivational abilities, and commitment to fair play and good sportsmanship 

Note: 

A skills assessment test will be administered as part of the selection process

 

Assistant Coach Position
