The OVA is working on a project to bring a High Performance League (HPL) to Ontario for athletes in the Learn to Compete stage of the Long Term Athlete Development model (17-18 yrs old).

The HPL will serve as a bridge between the club level and the post-secondary level by offering the following to young volleyball players:

  • 3/5 matches in a league format competitive structure
  • Enhanced daily training environment
  • Use of performance/video analysis tools
  • League website with team/individual stats
  • Live streamed matches
  • etc

Teams will have to meet specific standards in order to enter and participate in the league. These standards will include performance measures in multiple areas of club operations from governance to safe sports and technical development.

The current timelines for the development of this project are:

  • May-June 2019: Gather feedback from membership
  • July-August 2019: Develop a draft HPL Handbook with detailed regulations
  • September 2019: Gather feedback on draft Handbook
  • October 2019: Publish final HPL Handbook
  • November-December 2019: Work with clubs to help them prepare their applications
  • January 2020: Applications and selection of teams

The recording of an information webinar that took place on May 8th is currently available for everyone to watch. The webinar includes more detailed information about the reasons why the OVA is taking on this project and the proposed modalities of the league.
