The Development Coach program is the principal entry point for most coaches in the volleyball NCCP system. The program has four distinct steps required for certification. Completion of each step also provides the coach with one of three coaching "designations": In Training, Trained, or Certified.
These e-modules are designed to provide all the necessary information a volleyball coach will need prior to the in-person workshop. The content of the modules will be applied and practiced in the workshops and must be completed before attending.
The Development Coach Workshop introduces the game of volleyball and basic coaching concepts to novice coaches. Coaches will be expected to participate in a series of learning experiences designed to assist them in improving their volleyball coaching abilities and to have those coaching abilities assessed throughout the course. Successful completion of the Development Coach e-modules is required in order to register for a Development Coach Volleyball Workshop.
Coaches must undertake education and training in three multi-sport modules:
These modules provide education and training in areas relevant to coaches in all sports. To enroll in multi-sport modules, please visit the CAO Course Calendar.
The final step in the Development Coach process is the development of a coaching portfolio and the undertaking of a final evaluation. The portfolio includes several assignments:
• Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation
• Making Head Way In Sport (Generic) free online module
• Describing your coaching context
• Developing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
• Observing another coach's practice session.
Register for the Development Coach Portfolio & Evaluation in your "Status" area in the Volleyball Canada Coaching Centre. An OVA Coach Evaluator will be assigned to you once registration has been confirmed. Once a Coach Evaluator has been assigned, the coach will have 3 months to complete the evaluation towards certification.
If the coach does not complete the evaluation or is not successful, they will have to re-register for a subsequent evaluation.
NOTE: Coaches that completed the "Level 1 Technical" must complete the "Foundations of Volleyball emodules" before they can move onto the evaluation.
OVA Coach Evaluators:
