SPIKES® is a developmental volleyball program that is specifically designed for elementary students. It is not volleyball in the familiar sense, but rather an approach to teaching volleyball and the related motor skills, which are transferable to other physical activities. Spikes is intended as a supplement to your regular physical education classes, not as a skills clinic for your school teams.

What is SPIKES®?
SPIKES® is a developmental volleyball program that is specifically designed for elementary students. It is not volleyball in the familiar sense, but rather an approach to teaching volleyball and the related motor skills, which are transferable to other physical activities. The program consists of motor skill development exercises, pre-skill activities and modified games, presented in a volleyball setting.
Why participate in SPIKES®?

IT IS FUN FOR EVERYONE ! ! !
-
To teach younger children the basic motor elements necessary in various physical activities, and then apply those elements to volleyball
-
To provide a modified version of volleyball better suited to children

To allow children to develop a positive attitude towards volleyball through experience
-
Fewer players on smaller courts allows for more chances to contact the ball, which makes for a more efficient learning situation
-
The lighter, softer balls and lower net leads to more success
-
There are fewer rules, making it easier to play
-
To encourage participation in volleyball
-
To promote volleyball as an activity for the physical education curriculum and as an interschool sport

Clinicians will deliver a 15-20 minute mini-workshop for school leaders to provide them with the latest concepts for teaching volleyball to their students
