In the summer of 2017, Ontario players in the 14U age group will get a chance to develop their skills and athleticism in a structured OVA program that is integrated in the Athlete High Performance Pathway.
The new 14U High Performance Regional Program will allow athletes from across the province to experience a high-performance style of training and instruction through a 6-day overnight camp in North Bay. The goal of the program is to expose more athletes to both indoor and beach volleyball concepts as to create a broader and more skilled group of athletes in Ontario.
Following Long Term Athlete Development guidelines, the 14U HP Regional Program focuses on developing the overall technical and physical skills of each player. Participants will have an opportunity to train at all positions in the gym and on the sand, helping them develop essential motor skills for volleyball.
The integrated program will include both beach and indoor training in North Bay, ON.
Boys program: July 2nd to 7th
Girls program: July 17th to 22nd
*Athlete check in will open at 1pm on the first day of each program. Camp will end at lunch-time on the last day. The last morning of camp will be dedicated to indoor competition and gameplay that family and friends are welcome to come watch.
Training & Activities
A talented and large group of coaches from across the province will provide athletes with two on-court practices each day, as well as off-court sessions on valuable topics for athletes interested in participating at the most competitive levels of volleyball. Daily social activities will be a fun and memorable part of the camp experience.

Each region will conduct their own tryout or evaluation process. In order to be considered for the program, athletes must be on a 14U team registered and competing at the 14U Ontario Championships. Athletes must register for their Region’s Selection Camp through NRS prior to the 14U Ontario Championships for their team. Links to the registration page for each region will be updated below as the events are created.
Physical testing for all registered athletes will take place at Ontario Championship during the 14U weekends. A booth will be set up and staffed for this purpose at RIM Park on both 14U weekends.
At tryouts, athletes will be evaluated according to The Regional Athlete Identification Matrix designed for this age group. Download the matrix here. The coaches in each region will be looking for the objectives in white. The orange items are included as reference points for athletes, parents, and coaches but will not specifically be considered when evaluating athletes. Physical measurements will be taken at 14U Ontario Championships.
Once tryouts or evaluations have been completed, the OVA will select athletes to attend the camp in North Bay based on the rankings from each region. The selection process for each region will be designed so that athletes from multiple clubs can attend the program. This is to ensure that athletes from all corners of Ontario benefit from this program. In larger regions this may include a cap on the number of athletes able to attend from the same club.
To be considered for the program, athletes must attend regional tryouts and complete physical testing at Ontario Championships. Please register for physical testing by completing this form.
