At the June 2006 AGM, the Ontario Volleyball adopted the following motions: - Ontario
Volleyball requires mandatory screening of all individuals in leadership roles
who work directly with athletes. This includes all Staff, Directors, Chairs,
Coaches, Managers, Officials, Chaperones and persons who manage finances.
- The OVA Screening requirements include 3 components:
1. Police Record Check 2. Submission of personal resume including 3 references 3. Provision of a Job Description
-
The OVA offers assistance to members, including:
1. Clubs are eligible to receive a reimbursement (up to 50%) for costs associated with Police Background Checks for all registered leaders, provided proper receipts
are submitted to OVA 2. Sample Job Descriptions 3. Sample processes and interview questions 4. Sample best practices
The OVA strongly recommends that all clubs establish the following as a minimum standard of
care: -
Each Club should have a Club Screening Policy that has been approved by its Board.
- Each Club should have a Harassment Policy and associated procedures that have been
approved by its Board.
- All Club Personnel must adhere to the OVA Screening Policy and comply with associated practices when involved in OVA programs (excludes competitions/tournaments
where coaches are agents of their clubs and not the OVA).
- OVA shall maintain samples of above on the website for Club consideration.
It is important
to note that the OVA offers best practice recommendations to Clubs as well as
resources to assist in the development of policies, but does not determine how
these will ultimately operate. OVA policies as
stated above shall be strictly applied to all internal programs (e.g. High
Performance Programs, Elite Centres, Regional Programs, etc.). A full set of
practices and recommendations are available in the OVA Screening Policy - Best Practices document below. OVA Screening Policy - Best Practices
