As you may or may not know, Canada will be sending a team to the World Maccabi Games in Israel in 2009. This is essentially the Jewish Olympics. Brenda Willis will be Head Coaching the men's program in these games and Shane Donen from BC will be coaching the women's team, The team is competing in the open division (highest caliber - no age cap). We expect the men's team to average about 23 years of age and the women's to be slightly younger. This is a call for eligible athletes who might be interested in trying out. We are looking for elite volleyball players who are of Jewish heritage. They must be at least 25% jewish (1 grandparent), have a valid Canadian passport and be interested in being part of this competitive and cultural experience. There will be some financial obligation associated with this early July trip to Israel next summer, which is still to be determined. There will be an initial ID/selection camp in late June this year, and then a small block of training next year, along with the 10+ day trip to Israel. The scope of this program is similar to a PanAm or Commonwealth experience. If you know of any athletes who might qualify, please forward their contact information to: Brenda Willis - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Shane Donen - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
