Best of luck to all of the Canadian teams competing at the FIVB Swatch World Junior Championships from August 29 – September 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The six-day tournament will see the best U21 beach volleyball athletes in the world compete, including Canada’s 2010 World Junior Champion Garrett May (with Sam Schachter), and 2011 silver medalist Melissa Humana-Paredes (with Victoria Altomare). The silver medal made Humana-Paredes and Altomare the first Canadian women to ever stand on the podium at an international FIVB event in the history of Beach Volleyball.
For this year’s World Junior Championship, May will be partnered with Dallas Keith, who is coming off a gold medal win in the Senior Men’s Division 2 draw at 2012 Beach Nationals.
On the Women’s side Humana-Paredes will play with partner Taylor Pischke; the duo are the 2012 Senior Women’s Division 1 Beach National Champions. Humana-Paredes is looking to cap off a remarkable year, which has included winning the 2011 Ontario Sport Award for Team of the Year with previous partner Altomare.
