The OVA is committed to developing high performance athletes from an early age, with the intent of producing National Team players. Current High Performance Beach Programs include:
This program is meant to be an introduction to high performance training for young up and coming athletes. The target age for this program is 14U, which is an age group that was not traditionally serviced in the past. The Regional Development Program allows the OVA to train the young athletes on sand but also to introduce them to basic sport science concepts such as physical training, nutrition and mental performance. This program is integrated with indoor volleyball, which means that the young athletes will also train in indoor volleyball and develop their overall motor skills. This program serves the Ontario Summer Games program and allows the OVA to identify athletes for the Open Group and the 16U Team Ontario Beach program.
The purpose of OVA’s Off Season Beach Open Training program is to provide the opportunity for athletes to develop their beach skills during the indoor beach season. This program will help to shift the culture of beach volleyball to being perceived as a year round sport. There is no identification or selection for this program. The program will serve to offer a non-threatening environment to enter beach volleyball in a systematic way catered to an athletes’ development level. The open training program will provide the opportunity for athletes to enter beach volleyball at any time between the ages of 13-18 years old.
The main objective of 16U Team Ontario Beach program is to expose younger athletes to a high intensity beach volleyball program with the highest caliber or coaching available. This program is a camp based program to provide an entry point for athletes to begin working with the Team Ontario Beach high performance staff. Athletes and coaches will have their first contact with national team shared resources.
The main objective of the 18U Team Ontario Beach program is to introduce athletes to a fulltime high performance-training environment and training as a high performance athlete. The program is a camp based program consisting of 4-5 camps run throughout the summer competition season. Athletes will leave this program with direct exposure to Ontario Fulltime Training Group training methods, as well as the various sport science and sport medicine disciplines within an integrated support team.
The main objective of this program is to introduce and prepare athletes for international competition and the National Team’s Train to Compete Group. The 22U Team Ontario Beach program is integrated into the Senior Fulltime Training Centre Group during the summer competition months of May – August. Athletes in this group are preparing to compete in or qualify for international competition, and are provided a fulltime high performance-training environment on a daily basis. Athletes a part of this program directly utilize various sport science and sport medicine disciplines within the integrated support team of the Senior Fulltime Training Group.
The main objective of the Junior Fulltime Training Centre Group is to introduce athletes to fulltime training in a fulltime training environment, as well as learn to utilize all areas of the integrated support team. The Junior Fulltime Training Centre Group offers 4-5 days of regular training throughout the week as well as provides monitored sport science services such as strength and conditioning, and nutrition. Athletes in this group may include athletes looking to qualify and prepare for U17 and or U19 World Championships.
Athletes training within this group are preparing for international competition or preparing to break through into international competition. This group will include OHPSI targeted athletes training on a daily basis in preparation for U19/U21 World Championships and/or NORCECA Tour events. The main objective of this program is to optimize physical preparation and volleyball performance. This training group is integrated into utilizing the same Integrated Support Team as the National Team program in order to contribute to the seamless development and transition for the athletes on to the National Team.
