This program is meant to be an introduction to high performance training for young up and coming athletes. The target age for this program is 14U, which is an age group that was not traditionally serviced in the past. The Regional Development Program allows the OVA to train the young athletes on sand but also to introduce them to basic sport science concepts such as physical training, nutrition and mental performance. This program is integrated with indoor volleyball, which means that the young athletes will also train in indoor volleyball and develop their overall motor skills. This program serves the Ontario Summer Games program and allows the OVA to identify athletes for the Open Group and the 16U Team Ontario Beach program.
The purpose of OVA’s Off Season Beach Open Training program is to provide the opportunity for athletes to develop their beach skills during the indoor beach season. This program will help to shift the culture of beach volleyball to being perceived as a year round sport. There is no identification or selection for this program. The program will serve to offer a non-threatening environment to enter beach volleyball in a systematic way catered to an athletes’ development level. The open training program will provide the opportunity for athletes to enter beach volleyball at any time between the ages of 13-18 years old.
