Indoor Coaches Information PDF Print

OVA Coaching Certification Policy

1. It is the policy of Ontario Volleyball that all youth teams competing at OVA Competitions have a registered coach that is fully certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) at (minimum) Level One (Technical, Theory, Practical components) for volleyball. The only exception being first year coaches who will be allowed to coach for one year without a full NCCP Level 1 certification while they are in the process of obtaining their NCCP Level 1 certification.

Note 1: The intent of this policy is that a fully certified NCCP Level 1 coach be present on the bench when OVA Youth teams play in OVA competitions.

Note 2: Certification beyond NCCP Level 1 is required for all head coaches of OVA Athlete Development Programs (Elite Camps, Ontario Summer Games Teams, Ontario Regional Games Teams, Provincial Teams, and Canada Games Teams).

2. All team members working directly with athletes in registered club programs (coaches, assistant coaches, managers and trainers) are required to become registered members of the OVA.

Coaching Certification Montioring & Sanction Policy

Coaches must hand in their NCCP Passport (or a photocopy) or their OVA supplied first year exemption card (or a photocopy) with their team’s lineup card at the beginning of the match. The official (either first or second, if there are two officials) will verify the following:

(NCCP Passport)
CC# (to be written on the score sheet below the coach's signature)
Name
Sport is “Volleyball”
Level equals “1”
Component must be “Certified” (Theory, Technical, and Practical will also be present)

(OVA Coaching Certification Exemption Card)

Exemption Card EE# (to be written on the score sheet below the coach's signature)
Name
Season is "2009-2010"

If the coach can not produce the above requirements (proof of NCCP certification or OVA exemption):

a) the official will note this on the score sheet, AND
b) the team will be fined $100 for the tournament and will be ineligible to compete in subsequent OVA Tournaments until the fine is paid in full.
c) If the coach forgot their level certified NCCP passport or OVA Coaching Certification Excemption Car, the team will be fined $25 and will be ineligible to compete in subsequent OVA tournaments until the fine is paid in full.

A team will be allowed to finish a set/match without a certified coach if the team’s only certified coach gets ejected/disqualified from that set/match.

NOTE: The officials are not authorized to collect fines and are not authorized to determine whether a fine has been paid or not.
