Open Elite Division – Formerly "Elite 8"

**NEW CHANGES** (posted June 6th, 2007)

  • Any Wildcard or 24U entry will be seeded according to their points, in the case that they are seeded higher than the reserved Wildcard/24U entry spot.  Exception - unless the Open Wildcard is less than the seed #3.  The Open Wildcard will remain as seed #3 (e.g. if they are seeded #1 or #2 based on their points than they will be seeded there.)
  • Every team MUST have 820 points or greater to be eligible for Elite - UNLESS the team applies for the Qualifier or Wildcard. (Thus, if you have less than 820 points and you do NOT want to play in the Elite division register for Elite, AA-A1 and you will be ranked according to points. If you have less than 820 and you would like to play in Elite, register for the Qualifier or apply for a Wildcard).

FORMAT - ** NEW** - Following the FIVB, this summer will be an opportunity to play some modified double elimination tournaments as well as some pool play tournaments. To allow for growth and development of the tour, there will be mix of tournaments ranging in size of 8,12 and 16 teams.

PRIZE MONEY - ** NEW**
Please see the allotted prize money for each tournament in the table above.
Prize Money $873: 1st – 473, 2nd 200, 3rd - $100 each.
Prize Money $1673: TBD

Tournaments without prize money will offer prizing.

Historically, if you won the tournament, you would receive free entry into the next event. This year this "free entry" will not be granted, instead the $73 will be added to the payout for first place.

QUALIFIER - **NEW** - The elite qualifier will be held at 8:00 am the Saturday morning of each tournament. This will be one match. Teams that do not qualify will automatically be place in the Open A or AA divisions based on their points. The maximum number of teams in the qualifier will be 4 and registration will be based on points. Registration for the qualifier will take place and payment will be the full tournament fee.

Qualifier format will consist of one game to 25 points – tech time outs at 30… sides at 10 or best 2/3 to 15

In order for a qualifier to take place, there must be 2 or more teams registered. Once the main draw spots are filled, the qualifier schedule is posted. If only 1 team remains in the qualifier, they advance to the main draw. There must be 2 teams or more in order to run a qualifier. If there are less than two teams, the next highest points will get in. If a team does not qualify for the Elite main draw, they are put into the event on Saturday where there points rank them.

Qualifiers will be last seeds in the tournament.

WILD CARDS – **NEW** - Wild cards spots in the main draw will be granted to those that will increase the level of competition or for youth development, those athletes competing on the Provincial Team or Youth World Championships. Wild Card applications will be due Tuesday night at 11:59 pm prior to the tournament. Wild card recipients will be notified Wednesday morning.  All Wild Card applicants should register for the Qualifier to indicate interest in the main draw.

Download Wild Card Application doc CLICK HERE

Open wild cards will be seeded #3 in the tournament. If this team is not perceived to challenge for a 1st place then they will be asked to play in the qualifier.

Youth wild cards will be seeded just ahead of the Qualifiers.

Wild Card applications will be reviewed by, OVA technical Director, Volleyball Canada Beach High Performance Coordinator and OVA Beach Tour Coordinator.

If for some reason, there is no qualifier, no open Wildcard and no youth team, than the next highest ranked teams not already in the Elite Main Draw will be entered into the main draw.
