Beach Volleyball Off-Season Training

The purpose of OVA’s Off Season Beach Volleyball Open Training program is to provide the opportunity for athletes to develop their beach volleyball skills during the indoor beach season.  This program is suited to athletes who are both new or experienced to beach volleyball. Attention will be taken so that athletes are training in an environment suited to their needs and their development level.

  • 18/17u
  • 16/15u
  • 14/13u

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Provide athletes a flexible training opportunity with a punch pass attendance system.
  • Provide athletes playing indoor club the opportunity to develop in beach volleyball during the indoor season.
  • Provide athletes new to beach volleyball the opportunity to learn and explore beach volleyball in a fun and safe environment.
  • Prepare athletes for the OVA Winter Beach Tour, Volleyball Canada’s 2018 U19 World Championship Trials, 2018 Youth Olympics, and/or summer Provincial Team or Fulltime Training Group tryouts.

TRAINING FOCUS

  • Developmentally appropriate technical and tactical components of beach volleyball through Team Ontario philosophies (serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, peeling, digging).
  • Emphasis on physical literacy & developing whole skills.
  • Program designed to teach beach volleyball with consideration to athletes’ indoor competitive commitments.
  • Practices run with consideration to the athletes’ indoor workload and competitive season.

 IDENTIFICATION

  • The Open training program does not require identification. However, there is opportunity for athletes to be identifed to Identified Drop In Training sessions with additional practice options during the week.

COACHES

  • The program and coaches are provincial team coaches directly monitored and mentored by Senior Beach Development Coach Angie Shen.

Angie Shen, ChPC

 

Angie is an internationally experienced coach and coach of the 2014 U21 World Champion's from Ontario, as well as the 2016 Senior Women’s Beach National Champions. She has her NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma from the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario, and is an NCCP Master Coach Developer.

 

PROGRAM OUTLINE

  • Once a week between January 7, 2018 and April 29, 2018
  • Days Off: March Break, Statutory Holidays, VC Trials dates 

BALL TRAINING PROGRAM COST

  • Costs for sessions are used towards providing flexible court time opportunities, costs cover court fees as well as Team Ontario Coaching costs.

RESERVING PRACTICES

IMPORTANT RESERVATION NOTES

  • Limited spots per practice are available. Reserve your practice times immediately to ensure you get the spots you want.
  • Reservations can be modified at future dates.
  • In order to best prevent abuse of the reservation process, practice cancellations must be made prior to 72 hours in advance of practice time.
  • Practice cancellations made after the 72 hour time will require a medical note.
