Beach Off Season Open Training

Register today for the OVA Off Season Beach Volleyball Open Training program which helps new and experienced athletes to develop their beach volleyball skills during the indoor beach season. 

This program acts as a feeder to the Ontario Fulltime Training Groups in Toronto, meaning athletes may be identified for the Ontario Fulltime Training Groups. Please see the High Performance Beach Identification page for more information on the high performance beach athlete pathway.

  • 18u/17u
  • 16u/15u
  • 14u/13u

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Provide athletes new to beach volleyball the opportunity to learn and explore beach volleyball in a fun and safe environment.
  • Provide athletes playing indoor club the opportunity to develop in beach volleyball during the indoor season.
  • Prepare athletes for the OVA Winter Beach Tour, Volleyball Canada’s U17/U19 World Championship Trials, 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games, 2018 Youth Olympics, and/or summer Provincial Team or Fulltime Training Group tryouts.
  • Provide the opportunity for athletes to engage in a developmentally appropriate physical training program (strength & conditioning for 18/17u, 16u/15u athletes and speed, agility and functional movement for 14u/13u athletes).

 TRAINING FOCUS

  • Developmentally appropriate technical and tactical components of beach volleyball (serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, peeling, digging).
  • Emphasis on physical literacy & developing whole skills.
  • Program designed to teach beach volleyball with consideration to athletes’ indoor competitive commitments.
  • Practices run with consideration to the athletes’ indoor workload and competitive season.

 IDENTIFICATION

  • The Open Training program acts as a feeder program to the Ontario Fulltime Training Groups in Toronto. Athletes who are training within the Open program have the opportunity to be identified to be a part of the Ontario Fulltime Training Groups. COACHES

  • The program and coaches are provincial team coaches directly monitored and mentored by Beach Development Coaches Eddie Coleman and Angie Shen.

Eddie Coleman, ChPC

Eddie is an internationally experienced coach at Youth and Junior World Championships, FIVB Opens, the World Universiade and Canada Games. In 2015, Eddie coached Ontario athletes to a top 10 finish at the FIVB Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is currently completing his NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma from the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario.

 

Angie Shen, ChPC

 

Angie is an internationally experienced coach and coach of the 2014 U21 World Champion's from Ontario, as well as the 2016 Senior Women’s Beach National Champions. She has her NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma from the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario, and is an NCCP Advanced Learning Facilitator.

 

Josh Nichol

Josh was the lead coach for the boys 18U beach provincial team in 2015, as well as an assistant coach to the men’s 22U beach provincial team. This past 2016 season Josh attended both continental and world tour senior events as part of a coaching team, including the FIVB Grand Slam event in Long Beach, California. Josh is also an NCCP Learning Facilitator.

 

Brad McClure

Brad started coaching with Team Ontario beach in 2014, in 2016 he was the lead coach of girls 18U provincial team. This past season Brad attended his first U21 World Championship tournament as a part of the coaching team in Lucerne, Switzerland. Currently completing his PhD in Sport Philosophy, he is also the head coach of Conestoga college’s women’s indoor volleyball team.

  • Reserve practice times before limited spots are taken up by logging in to your Punchpass Account.

IMPORTANT RESERVATION NOTES

  • Please note that limited spots per practice are available. Reserve your practice times immediately to ensure you get the spots you want.
  • Reservation for available practice spots can be made right up to practice start time.
  • Reservations can be made as far in advance as 180 days prior to the start of practice.
  • In order to best prevent abuse of the reservation process, practice cancellations can only be made prior to 72 hours in advance of practice time.
  • Practice cancellations made after the 72 hour time will be counted towards one of your session credits.
  • Practice cancellations made within the 72 hour time period require a medical note for the athlete in order to receive credit back.
