OVA 13U/14U Integrated Beach & Indoor Pilot Program

New this year, as an extension to the Beach Full-time Training groups, the OVA is offering an integrated pilot program designed to introduce 13U/14U athletes to a holistic development structure as experienced by our high performance athletes. The intent of the program is to develop and educate athletes with a periodization to Beach Nationals using both beach and indoor training formats. This program will be attentive to both those new and experienced to volleyball, all are encouraged to try out.

Program Objective

  • To provide the environment for athletes to enjoy and develop both beach and indoor volleyball disciplines in an appropriately monitored year round program.
  • To deliver an optimal healthy periodized year round development plan for Train to Train athletes.
  • To educate athletes and parents on developmental excellence at the Train to Train level of the Long Term Athlete Development pathway by teaching physical literacy and the game of volleyball.

Program Overview

One male and one female group will be selected to be a part of an inaugural group of athletes to train in a year round monitored program.

  • 1 male group, up to 12 athletes
  • 1 female group, up to 12 athletes

 Training Focus

  • Emphasis on physical literacy, developing whole skills, and play.
  • Athletes will learn technical components of volleyball (serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, digging), and the tactics of both indoor and beach volleyball.
  • Yearly Training Plan from October - August
  • Monitored support and education with professionals for nutrition, strength and conditioning, functional movement screens & physical testing, yoga, mental performance, and training load. 

Practices

Indoor Court Practices

(Days & times TBC – Permit confirmation dependent, location will be around the GTA)

  • Tuesday or Wednesday 7:30-9:30p (TBC)
  • Facility: West Humber Collegiate Institute, Toronto, ON (TBC)

Beach Court Practices

  • Friday 4:30-6:30pm or 6:30-8:30p & Saturday 11:00-1:00pm
  • Facility: Volleyball Canada Beach Full-time Training Centre, Downsview Park, Toronto, ON

Speed & Agility Workouts

  • Facility: Volleyball Canada Beach Full-time Training Centre, Downsview Park, Toronto, ON

Practices in the summer will take place at Ashbridges Bay, times of practices will be in the evenings in May and June, and will change to the mornings for July and August.

Pre Outdoor Beach Season Training Camp

  • Objective of Training Camp: To provide a pre season training camp for athletes to train outdoors.
  • Location: Florida
  • March Break – Week of March 13
  • Travel and Accommodation Costs will be additional
  • Details TBC

Competitions

Winter/Spring

  • Indoor Invitational Tournaments
    • Meaningful competition will be sourced in and/or out of province as appropriate TBD
    • Please note, this team will not compete within the OVA Indoor Youth Competition Series
    • OVA Winter Beach Tour
      • Toronto, London, Thorold, Brantford – locations and dates TBD

Summer

  • OVA Summer Beach Tour
  • OVA Beach Provincials, Ashbridges Bay, Toronto
  • Volleyball Canada's Beach Nationals, Ashbridges Bay, Toronto

Coaches

Coaches of this program include provincial team coaches; Brad McClure, Darren O’Neil. All coaches of this program are actively working to upgrade their NCCP Certification.

As well, the program and coaches are directly monitored and mentored by Beach Development Coach Angie Shen. Angie has her NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma from the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario, and is an NCCP Advanced Learning Facilitator.

  • Winter Phase: October – April, $2200
  • Summer Phase: May – August, $1600

* Unfortunately there are limited spots to this program. Athletes who are not selected to this program will be offered the opportunity to be a part of the Off Season Open Training Groups.
