The Ontario Volleyball Association, in partnership with Tourism Toronto and the Enercare Centre, is ecstatic to announce that the Ontario Volleyball Championships will be held at the Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto in 2020, 2023 and 2026.
The Ontario Championships are the largest volleyball competition in Ontario, and the largest Provincial Volleyball Championship of its kind in Canada, with upwards of 45,000 athletes, coaches and spectators participating in the showcase event. The Championships include eight different age brackets, ranging from 11U to 18U, with over 800 teams competing to be crowned the provincial champions in their respective category.
“Tourism Toronto and all of our partners are excited to welcome the 45,000 athletes and fans for the Ontario Volleyball Championships in 2020, 2023 and 2026,” said Johanne Bélanger, President & CEO, Tourism Toronto. “The Toronto region is no stranger to hosting marquee sporting events and playing host to the Championships three times underscores our commitment to bringing the best sporting events to the region while growing the visitor economy.”
The 2020 event, scheduled for April 16-21, will mark the first time in over a decade that the Championships have switched venues, having been held at RIM Park in Waterloo since 2008. For the OVA, the goal has been to hold the season's marquee event in a facility that can contain all teams under one roof over a six day span in a festival-style atmosphere. The Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto boasts over one million square feet of event space, providing ample room for over 50 courts plus additional space for vendors and other event activations.
"Securing a world-class facility like the Enercare Centre and hosting the Ontario Championships in Ontario's capital and largest city emphasizes our commitment to growing the sport of volleyball in this province," said Alishia Lidums, Director of Operations, OVA. "Our clubs, coaches, officials, athletes and their parents, our partners and sponsors, and the staff at the OVA have all made it their mission to help volleyball become a sport of choice in Canada. Ontario Championships 2020 at Enercare will be a fitting celebration of those efforts as we'll be able to bring together all teams in all age groups together under one roof for the first time in our history. We can't wait!"
Mrs. Lidums added, "We (the OVA) want to extend our sincerest appreciation to Tourism Toronto and the staff at the Enercare Centre for their help in making this event and partnership possible."
Arlene Campbell, General Manager, Sales & Event Management at the Enercare Centre echoed the enthusiasm of all parties involved. “We are thrilled to be welcoming Ontario Volleyball to Enercare Centre for their provincial championships. Enercare Centre is an ideal venue for this exciting event and we look forward to being a part of it,” she said.
Dianne Young, CEO of Exhibition Place, agreed by stating, “Exhibition Place is proud to be the host venue for the OVA's Provincial Championships in 2020. We look forward to working with the OVA team.”
