INTEGRATED BEACH PROGRAM FOR INDOOR CLUB TEAMS

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Recent studies have shown that practicing multiple sports at a young age is extremely beneficial for acquiring a range of physical abilities and developing overall athleticism (source). The Canadian Long Term Athlete Development model also suggests that young athletes should participate in different sports to succeed in a late-specialization sport such as volleyball (source).

With this new initiative, the OVA wants to support clubs in easily providing beach volleyball opportunities to their 12U-14U athletes so they can develop athletic abilities that will make them better overall athletes.

This program’s objective is to engage the club coaches just as much as the athletes. Team Ontario Beach coaches will be on site to provide support if required by the team coach.

OVA’s OBJECTIVES

  • Support the development of physical literacy and overall volleyball skills in young athletes
  • Expose more athletes to the practice of beach volleyball
  • Connect with indoor club coaches who are interested in coaching and learning about beach volleyball
  • Support the development of beach volleyball as a year round spor

BENEFITS TO THE INDOOR CLUB

  • Be a leader in the community by offering an integrated approach to developing volleyball athletes
  • Increase contacts and provide variation training for athletes within an environment that is still volleyball focused
  • Manage the athlete’s training load and create continuity for the athlete who wants to do both beach and indoor
  • Court time is dedicated to the one club team, which also provides for team bondin
