Indoor High Performance Update

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

As the 2017-18 OVA season is starting, here is an update on the upcoming High Performance programs:

The first training camp of Team Ontario Elite will take place in Gatineau for the boys and in Ottawa for the girls on the weekend of October 13-15. The athletes will train and participate in multiple workshops including strength training, mental performance and nutrition. The goal of this first camp is to prepare them to optimize their training for the upcoming season.

The athletes will participate in this camp alongside their club coaches who were also invited to attend professional development activities at the same time.

The Team Ontario Elite athletes were selected at the end of last summer’s high performance season. The selected athletes have been selected for their demonstrated commitment to high performance and potential to advance to a junior national team in the next 1-2 years.

The full Team Ontario Elite rosters are available here.

The athlete identification process will be back in 2018. This process allowed over 600 athletes to be evaluated and to receive feedback in 2017. Over 200 of them were invited to a Team Ontario selection camp.

Registration for the 2018 Athlete Identification Process will begin at the end of November. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

The job posting for the Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions for the 2018 Team Ontario programs will be posted during the week of October 16th. Interested coaches will have two (2) weeks to submit an application. Make sure to check our website during that week in order not to miss the posting.

Coaches with a conflict of interest

Coaches who are coaching club at an age group covered by a Team Ontario program can still apply to be a Team Ontario coach. The coaches who appear to have a conflict of interest will be removed from the athlete selection process for the age group in which they coach. This will apply to Team Ontario coaches as well as to OVA staff coaching a club team (LP Mainville with MAC 15U and Jennifer Neilson with HRVC 17U).

The Quest For Gold athlete assistance program is usually released in October. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is currently evaluating the program and hasn’t released the information for the 2018 funding. The OVA Selection Criteria will be posted on the website as soon as the information is made available by the MTCS.
