Provincial Team Information PDF Print E-mail

The Provincial Team program has traditionally been the final stage of the OVA Elite Development Model. The numbers of training sessions, intensity, and competition opportunities have varied depending on the year/stage of the 4-year Canada Games cycle.

The Provincial Team program affords the highest level of volleyball training and competition for young Ontarians and acts as a stepping-stone and development vehicle towards top-level College/University play and National Team opportunities.

Team Ontario Program 2007

Ontario Volleyball is continuing to reshape its ADP program in conjunction with its Long Term Athlete Development Model. In 2007, for the first time Ontario Volleyball will be coordinating Provincial Team training opportunities for athletes in the Train to Compete LTAD stage which includes athletes up to 22 years of age. Combined with the traditional Provincial Team program directed at athletes 17-19 years of age now called (based on LTAD) the Learn to Compete program, we now offer high performance training and competition opportunities with Team Ontario for up to 36 athletes and 3 separate teams per gender.

Learn to Compete Provincial Team Program

The Learn to Compete Provincial Team Program is closely aligned with the OVA ADP High Performance Centre (HPC) program. The HPC serves as a part of the Team Ontario training with 40-48 athletes per gender attending. 20-24 athletes per gender are selected from the HPC for further training and a chance to represent Ontario at the National Team Challenge Cup Tournament held each summer. In 2007 Ontario Volleyball will be represented at the NTCC as follows:

Team Ontario Men White – 19U – born in 1988 or later

Team Ontario Men Red – 18U – born in 1989 or later

Team Ontario Women White – 18U – born in 1989 or later

Team Ontario Women Red – 17U – born in 1990 or later

Please visit the HPC page for all details regarding the identification and selection process.

Train to Compete Provincial Team Program

From March 22-25, 2007 Ontario Volleyball will be holding its first Train to Compete Team Ontario Camp at University of Toronto. 24 Ontario Athletes per gender between 19-22 years of age will be invited to attend this camp, which will be headlined by Canadian National Team Coaches. The 4-day camp will encompass on and off court training, sports science education, physical testing, classroom sessions and competition. In future years this camp will expand and serve as part of team Ontario’s preparation for the Canada Summer Games.
