Road to the 2008 HPC

2008 HPC - Humber College, Etobicoke - July 2-7, 2008

1. The OVA will enlist the help of interested coaches to act as a coaches poll. All 17U, 18U, and 19U coaches will be given the opportunity to become apart of the group and must express their interest to be included in the process by March 22nd, 2008. These coaches will be asked to rank the top athletes by position after Ontario Championships based on performance through out the season. The Coaches' Poll will ulimately decide which athletes will be directly invited to the HPC by assesing all athletes they see at OVA events and Ontario Championships

2. Club contacts and 17U, 18U, and 19U coaches will be asked to nominate any athlete(s) from their club or teams that are born in 1988 or later who demonstrate characteristics of a High Performance athlete and is worthy of consideration. Name of athlete
Email address of athlete
Club affiliation
Position
Uniform number
Year of birth

A database will be created and these athletes will be looked at by a group of evaluators at OVA tournaments.

3. Following the Ontario Championships, 20 athletes per gender will be emailed a direct invitation to the HPC based on the coaches poll. Invitations to both genders will be sent out by April 24th (POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY APRIL 28th). The athletes' club and coach will be carbon copied on this email. The list of directly invited athletes will not be posted on the OVA website, so we encourage all clubs to check to see that their athlete is aware when they receive an invitation. Athletes that receive a direct invitation must confirm their intentions to the OVA by May 19th. Athletes that DID NOT receive an invitation are encouraged to register for the HPC Open tryout on the May 24th & 25th weekend.

4. Registration for the HPC Open Tryout will commence April 28th. Athletes that did not receive a direct invitation to the HPC are strongly recommended to attend the HPC Open Tryout in order to be considered for the HPC and the Provincial Team. The Open Tryout will be a full day (approximately 6 hours) tryout. The male tryout will be on Saturday May 24th and the female tryout will be on Sunday May 25th at a location to be announced. The registration deadline for the Open Tryout will be Sunday May 18th, at 11:59pm.

5. The final invitation for the HPC will be sent out via email to athletes by Tuesday May 27th. The athletes club and coach will be carbon copied on this email. The list of invitees will also be posted on the OVA website. At this time the HPC on-line registration will open.

6. The registration deadline for the HPC will be Thursday June 22nd at 11:59pm. The HPC will begin on Wednesday July 2nd and will run until Monday July 7th, 2008.

7. Two Provincial Teams per gender (20-22 female athletes & 20-22 male athletes) and alternates will be selected as a result of the HPC. The selected athletes will receive an email on TBD. Online registration will open for selected Provincial Team athletes at this time. The list of Team Ontario athletes will not be posted on the OVA website until all athletes have registered.
